KUALA LUMPUR: The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) have revealed that there are foreigners trying to quietly return to their home countries through jetties in this country's borders.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador said police would tighten the monitoring of jetties and ports in the country.

"Previously, we arrested five men and a woman, who were of Bangladesh and Myanmar nationalities, trying to enter Padang Besar, Perlis between March 19 and March 23, which were within the Movement Control Order (MCO) period.

"Based on this trend, we also monitored jetties near the borders to prevent foreigners from entering as it could lead to the spread of COVID-19," he told a special press conference in Bukit Aman here.

In another development, Abdul Hamid said media personnel were allowed to carry out live coverage of roadblocks by complying with standard operating procedures and that it was not an issue for PDRM.
