Visitors have started flocking to Yong Peng, says Dr Wee

PETALING JAYA: Yong Peng has become a top popular destination in Johor especially for those using the North-South Expressway, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

In a Facebook post, the Transport Minister said that based on his own survey done on Friday (April 15) night, he found that the shops around Yong Peng had become busier compared to previous times, with many shops packed with customers.

“Since yesterday, many visitors from Singapore and Malaysians working in Singapore have entered Johor following a three-day holiday in Singapore.

“To those who just arrived, I welcome your arrivals. Welcome to Yong Peng,” said the Ayer Hitam MP.

On March 25, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and his Singapore counterpart Lee Hsien Loong, in a joint statement, said both countries had agreed to reopen their land borders for fully vaccinated travellers beginning April 1.

Malaysia and Singapore would also allow fully vaccinated travellers to cross the land border without the need to take a Covid-19 pre-departure and arrival tests or be quarantined.
