Underwear thief in Kluang has struck before, say cops

JOHOR BARU: The man who was caught on camera attempting to steal undergarments from a house had apparently committed a similar offence just four days ago.

Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Low Hang Seng said the incident that went viral on social media took place at about 4am on Friday (April 8) at a housing area in Kluang.

“The owner of the house realised the attempt when the security alarm rang.

“A check on the house’s CCTV footage found that this was the second time such incident has happened,” he said.

He added that the first incident was on April 4.

The case is being investigated under Section 379/511 of the Penal Code for attempted theft, which carries the penalty of a maximum of seven years imprisonment, or a fine or both.

“We urge the public to be careful with their safety and belongings,” he said, adding that those with information on the incident could reach out to the nearest police station.

Earlier, a 45-second CCTV footage of a man attempting to steal a woman’s undergarments hung on a clothes rack outside of a house has gone viral.
