Umno sec-gen to meet ROS over legality of party’s no-contest decision

PETALING JAYA: A meeting with the Registrar of Societies (ROS) to explain the legality of the voting process during the Umno General Assembly 2022 will be held soon, says Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan.

The party secretary-general said the process that was done during the Umno assembly last week had followed the party’s rules and constitution.

The Pontian MP also said that based on Rule 2.1 of the Umno assembly, the Permanent Chairman has the authority to make a final decision if there is any issue arising during the session.

“The granting of authority to the Permanent Chairman is to ensure that the assembly proceeds in order but not too restricting for the delegates.

“This is because the assembly’s goal is to discuss and decide issues regarding the party’s policies as provided under Clause 8.3.1 of the Umno Constitution,” he was quoted as saying on Saturday (Jan 21) by Malay language daily Sinar Harian.

Earlier, it was reported that Umno member from the Kuala Nerus division Muhammad Aizat Fikri and Seremban Umno member Muhammad Fiqri Firdaus Muhammad Rom claimed that the party had violated its constitution at the general assembly.

However, Seremban division chief Mustafa Salim denied on Saturday that the division had sent a notice of objection to the ROS over the issue.

He said that the division fully supported the motion brought from the Negri Sembilan Rembau representative so that the two party’s top two posts would go uncontested.
