School vandals seen in viral video to undergo community service

PETALING JAYA: The pupils who were involved in vandalising school property on the last day of the 2022 school session will undergo community service, says the Penang Education Department.

In a statement on Saturday (Feb 18), the department said it was aware of the incident.

“The pupils’ guardians have been summoned for a discussion on Saturday.

“The community service intervention is to ensure that this will not happen again.

“The losses amounting from the vandalism are under investigation,” it said.

The department noted that it was saddened by the incident and would ensure that the school gives the issue serious attention.

Moral education and immediate preventive measures will be taken to ensure such cases do not repeat.

“A campaign to stop vandalism as well as a comprehensive action plan will be intensified to be in line with the seven cores of the Education Ministry.”

The department also warned that online portals that have published the video without obscuring the pupils’ faces should delete it as it is a crime under Section 15 of the Child Act 2001.
