School teacher wins Harvest Queen crown, dedicates it to her family

KOTA KINABALU: Newly crowned Sabah Unduk Ngadau Frenerietta Sobitun has dedicated her win in the cultural pageant to her family.

“This win is extremely meaningful for me. This is for my family,” she said after being crowned the 2022 state Harvest Queen.

With the new title, the 25-year-old primary school teacher hopes to create more awareness and instil a deeper love towards Sabah’s cultures and heritage, especially among youth.

“I will try to work with both private and government agencies to promote the cultures of Sabah and to instil a deeper love for Sabah’s unique traditions better,” she said.

Frenerietta, the third of five siblings, is the daughter of a district officer and housewife.

Her ability to speak with confidence in her native Dusun language during a question and answer session were among the factors that contributed towards her winning the contest.

She had ended one of her responses to the question given with a song that was relevant to the issue presented.

She donned the Dusun Labuk attire during the finale.
