Sarawak Polls: Total of four Bersatu members contesting as Independents

KUCHING: Four members from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia have defied the party’s decision to sit out the Sarawak State Election.

Apart from Datuk Ali Biju, Siki Balarik will be contesting in Belaga, Ricky Enteri in Bawang Assan and Ismawi Muhammad in Muara Tuang.

Sources have confirmed that Siki is Hulu Rajang Bersatu chief while Ricky’s social media page states he is a youth activist from Bawang Assan.

Ismawi is the Kota Samarahan Bersatu division chief and he confirmed in a Facebook post that he would contest the Muara Tuang seat as an Independent.

According to a list sighted by The Star, Ismawi is also Sarawak Perikatan Nasional information chief.

Siki will be contesting using the book symbol; Ismawi has chosen the key symbol while Ricky is contesting under the pen symbol.

On Nov 27, Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the party would not be contesting in the Sarawak Election to give way to Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).

Instead, he said Bersatu would give their support to GPS to ensure the coalition has the majority to form the state government.

Bersatu information chief Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan had said the party would take disciplinary action against members who are contesting.
