KEPALA BATAS: The police have advised the public not to speculate about the incident involving a student at a school in Tasek Gelugor here as it could raise tension between races.
The alleged incident involved a Form 1 student who was told to kneel with her hands up by a senior teacher during a school assembly.
According to North Seberang Prai OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Radzi Ahmad, statements taken from several students and teachers at the school indicated that they did not see the student punished during the school assembly as alleged.
“The statement from the witnesses also stated that the holy string that the student wore was still attached on her hand and the traditional black dot (pottu) was not removed from her forehead,” he said in a statement on Thursday (Nov 3)
ACP Mohd Radzi said investigations also found that the student is new and was transferred in October.
He said police also received a report lodged by the teacher who had denied the allegation.
The 13-year-old student alleged that she was punished by a senior teacher who told her to kneel with her hands up during the school assembly for wearing shoes with velcro straps.
She also claimed her holy string was cut by the teacher and had been forced by her teacher to remove her pottu.
She then told her father before lodging a police report on Nov 1 at about 10.45pm.
The case is being investigated under Section 298 of the Penal Code.
