NRD presents identification cards, birth certificates to 30 in Kudat

KOTA KINABALU: The National Registration Department (NRD) continues to bring its services to the people, especially in hard to reach areas by going to the ground.

This effort through an ongoing MEKAR – Program Menyemai Kasih Rakyat – recently saw a total of 30 people from Kudat receive their identification cards and birth certificates.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin presented these documents comprising 20 birth certificates (registered late), five MyKads (late register), and five MyKids to islanders on Banggi Island on Saturday (Oct 1).

According to a statement by the state NRD, the Mekar Programme has been held for five times on the island, with the latest being the sixth one this year.

The NRD had solved the late registration of 148 birth certificates and 106 identification cards since the introduction of the programme in 2019 to date.

The statement explained that this programme helps those who have trouble travelling out of their homes to NRD offices, the elderly and the disabled to get their identification documents.

The nearest NRD office from Banggi Island takes about an hour and a half to reach by ferry, said the statement.

It also mentioned that this programme is part of the various government initiatives to bring better services to the people.
