No tiger roaming in Banting and Gua Musang

THE Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) has set the record straight about an image which supposedly showed a tiger roaming around in Banting, Selangor and Gua Musang, Kelantan.

Sinar Harian quoted Perhilitan director-general Datuk Abdul Kadir Abu Hashim as saying that the picture was earlier published by a portal in Indonesia in March.

“Initial checks found that the location isn’t in Sungai Kelambu (Banting) and Sungai Terah (Gua Musang),” he said, in reference to the photo that had been circulated online.

As of 10am yesterday, he said Perhilitan had not received any report about such sightings there.

Abdul Kadir advised people not to share unverified items, adding they should check with the relevant authorities to avoid confusing the public.

On Monday, a picture and voice recording went viral on WhatsApp, claiming that a tiger was roaming in a garden in Sungai Kelambu.

According to Sinar Harian, the 27-year-old housewife from Bahau in Jempol, who wanted to be known only as “Mia”, fell victim to the scam after opening up a dubious link on the Telegram app on her phone.

“I opened a link of an e-commerce group and I received a message from an individual known as Nana S, who offered me a job, which involved performing tasks given on her instruction.

“Nana then asked me to deposit RM100 before instructing me to complete several tasks, and offered a payment of RM10,000,” said Mia.
