Mother arrested after disabled teen falls from first floor apartment

KUALA LUMPUR: The mother of a disabled teenager was arrested for child negligence after he fell from the first floor of an apartment here.

In a statement Sunday (Sept 4), Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Farouk Eshak said that the mother of the victim was informed of the fall by her ex-husband on Sept 3.

“The 13-year-old victim, who is autistic, fell from the first floor of an apartment in Taman Melawati and fell onto a car. He suffered injuries and required stitches to the head and hand areas.

“It is believed that she had left the victim on his own since the night of Sept 2 to bring her five-year-old daughter for swimming lessons and to stay overnight at a hotel in Damansara,” he said.

The woman was arrested at 2pm Sunday and will be remanded tomorrow.

The case is being investigated under the Child Act 2001.
