MCA can rise again in GE15, says party veteran

KANGAR: MCA is confident that it can rise again in the 15th General Election (GE15) to win back the people’s support for the party.

Perlis MCA veteran Dr Por Choo Chor said that most people in this country had begun to realise that the fall of Barisan Nasional in the 14th General Election (GE14) was due to the propaganda played by the opposition parties, using certain sentiments to gain the voters’ support.

“However, most of the people have realised not to fall anymore for their (opposition parties) propaganda. Hence, I believe that MCA and BN can rise again to attain victory in GE15,” he said when met, here, today.

Dr Por, the former MCA Kangar division chief, said the party’s stand still remained — the need to field local candidates in order to win the people’s support in the coming GE.

On MCA’s seats in Perlis, Dr Poh said the party needed to defend its two traditional state seats, namely, Indera Kayangan and Titi Tinggi.

He said MCA leaders need to work harder to make the people understand why they should not fall for the sentiments played by the opposition after this

“That is why MCA needs to make early preparations to enable the party to counter all the (opposition’s) propaganda. The Kangar MCA division has also submitted early, the names of four candidates who we feel qualify to contest the Indera Kayangan state seat in GE15,” he added.

In GE14, the Indera Kayangan seat was won by PKR through its candidate, Gan Ay Ling who received 5,203 votes, defeating two other candidates, Chuah Tian Hee (BN/MCA: 1,846 votes) and Wan Hassan (PAS: 1,835 votes).

The Titi Tinggi seat was retained by BN/MCA through Teh Chai Aan who garnered 2,762 votes by contesting against Teh Seng Chuan (PKR: 2,620 votes), Kamis Yub (PAS: 2,291) and Yaacob Man (Independent: 132) – Bernama
