Malaysia stands with Turkiye following earthquake disaster, says Anwar

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia expresses its solidarity with Turkiye during the difficult times after experiencing the earthquake, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Prime Minister also conveyed condolences on behalf of Malaysians to the republic’s president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

“I expressed Malaysia’s solidarity as a friendly country during the hard and difficult times, as well as its unwavering commitment, especially in helping Turkish citizens affected by the earthquake.

“I also conveyed the condolences of the people of Malaysia and informed the president about the assistance that has been provided by the Malaysian Government.

“Together let’s pray that this sad event passes quickly and Turkiye recovers,” he said on Facebook on Wednesday (Feb 15).

Also present at the visit in the country’s capital Ankara were Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah, Sarawak Affairs and Special Functions) Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, Malaysian Ambassador to Turkiye Sazali Mustafa Kamal and Foreign Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Amran Mohamed Zin.

Anwar had earlier visited Gaziantep to inspect the disaster site and met with the Special Malaysia Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team before leaving for Ankara to hold a meeting with Erdogan.

He is expected to leave Turkiye at 2pm (local time) and arrive back home at 7am on Thursday (Malaysian time) before attending the Dewan Rakyat meeting as well as a pre-Cabinet meeting with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.
