Malaysia regains Cat 1 International Aviation Safety Assessment safety rating, says Dr Wee

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia has regained its Category 1 International Aviation Safety Assessment (IASA) safety rating, says Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

“Very happy to announce that Malaysia has regained her Category 1 IASA safety rating from the US Federal Aviation Administration.

“I will be holding a virtual press conference in Montreal, Canada at 8.30am Saturday, Oct 1 for the media back home in Malaysia,” he said in an Instagram post on Friday (Sept 30).

The IASA program helps identify areas to strengthen aviation safety oversight and meet the United Nations International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) standards.

The IASA program assesses and determines a country’s compliance with these international standards on the ICAO’s eight critical elements of effective aviation safety oversight in the

ICAO Document 9734, Safety Oversight Manual.
