JPJ will ensure safety of motorists during long Aidiladha weekend

SUNGAI BESI: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) will be out and about to ensure the safety of motorists during the long weekend, as people make their journey back to their hometowns for Hari Raya Aidiladha.

JPJ deputy director general (operations and planning) Aedy Fadly Ramli said according to PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS), an estimated two million vehicles will use the highway from July 7 to July 12.

“This is why we have decided to conduct special operations on July 7 and 8 and July 12 and July 13.

“These operations will focus on monitoring, tracing and taking action on public service vehicles and drivers who do not follow the law and ensure the safety of road users while ensuring traffic flows smoothly,” he told reporters at the Sungai Besi toll plaza on Wednesday (July 6).

He said they would also focus on nine main road offences such as speeding, beating the red light, overtaking on double lines, driving on emergency lanes, cutting queue, using mobile phone while driving, not wearing helmet and seat belt, overloading and dangerously loading cargo.

“Our personnel will also be going undercover in express buses to ensure the drivers follow traffic regulations,” he said.

Aedy Fadly warned road users, especially, those driving on expired license and road tax that his personnel would not hesitate to take stern action including seizing their vehicles.

“Today, nearly 200 personnel from JPJ, with the support of the Police, PLUS, Immigration Department and National Anti Drug Agency, were involved in the operations here.

“We checked 1,317 vehicles, detected 441 violations and seized five cars and nine motorcycles for various offences.

“The AADK also arrested a man in his 30s after he tested positive for methamphetamines,” he said.

Aedy Fadly advised road users to follow the traffic regulations and be courteous and patient when travelling.

“Our personnel will be out and about at hotspots along the highways and conduct patrols,” he said, urging anyone with information on traffic violations to do so via the JPJ applications e-ADUAN@JPJ menu or email to
