‘Godzilla’ among six vehicles seized in ops to weed out illegal racing on Lekas

KAJANG: A Nissan GTR nicknamed Godzilla in the automotive world was among six vehicles seized after police conducted a special operation to weed out illegal racing along the Kajang-Seremban Expressway (Lekas) here.

Five drivers and two men believed to be the organisers were arrested for their fast and furious antics.

Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Zaid Hassan said police from the Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department Intelligence and Operations Unit conducted the operation at around 2am on Thursday (Sept 15).

“Police detained 10 men who were watching the reckless and dangerous races there. Ten vehicles were also seized.

“Investigations were conducted and two men suspected to be the organisers and five men who were driving recklessly were arrested,” he said, adding that police also seized six sports cars.

He said those detained were brought to the Kajang police headquarters for further action.

“We are investigating the drivers for reckless and dangerous driving under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act while the two organisers were being investigated under Section 81(3) of the same Act for suspicion of organising the race and being involved in placing bets.

“The six vehicles seized included a Nissan GTR, Mercedes, BMW, Honda Civic and a Toyota Vellfire.

“The police, especially the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department, are committed to curbing illegal racing activities which pose a risk to all road users,” he said.

ACP Mohd Zaid urged the public with any information on such activities to contact the Selangor police hotline at 03-2052 9999 or go to the nearest police station.
