Give authorities space to probe Azam Baki share controversy, says Faizal Azumu

PETALING JAYA: All parties must give ample space to the relevant authorities to conduct their investigations involving the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki shares controversy, says Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu (pic).

The Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) deputy president said they must allow the authorities including the police, Securities Commission and internal investigations to conduct their respective probes without prejudice.

He also stressed on the importance of upholding the rule of law in cases involving civil servants and should not simply punish them through “media warfare.”

“This is because as a civil servant, when carrying out their duties, sometimes they might become a target due to their assertiveness,” he said in a statement Monday (Jan 10).

The Youth and Sports Minister said, as a Cabinet member, he also viewed the issue surrounding the controversy seriously.

He pointed out that Azam had given an explanation regarding the matter, showing his high integrity as a top civil servant.

“His openness to be investigated by the relevant authorities must also be praised while the issue of accountability as the chief of the MACC should not be questioned,” said Ahmad Faizal.

“Civil servants, especially the MACC, must not be scared to carry out their duties and responsibilities just because there are certain parties out there who conspire to tarnish their image,” he said.
