GE15: Barisan candidates in Melaka warrants people’s trust, says Wee

MELAKA: The public should give a chance to Barisan Nasional candidates contesting parliamentary seats here, given their progressive nature and positive track records, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The MCA president said due to this, the candidates who comprise young and new faces should in turn be given an opportunity to lead their constituencies.

“These are bright and young individuals who can bring forward many issues to parliament.

“This includes issues related to youths, employment and business opportunities, among others,” he told reporters after visiting the Tangga Batu night market on Sunday (Nov 6) evening.

Barisan candidates in Melaka include MCA vice president Datuk Lim Ban Hong, who is contesting the Tangga Batu seat, Umno information chief Shahril Hamdan, who is contesting the Alor Gajah seat and MCA’s Kon Qi Yao for the Kota Melaka seat.

On Lim contesting the Tangga Batu seat, Wee said thorough discussions were held on which parties would contest Tangga Batu and Alor Gajah seats.

“Lim has been in the Tangga Batu area for the longest time, and would be the best candidate following very thorough discussions on the best strategies (for Barisan) to win the seat,” he said.

He added that it would also be a waste if Shahril did not contest during the 15th general election (GE15).

“(And) the seat he is contesting is full of challenges, where he is up against heavyweights there.

“Despite that, he has the criteria and it is not easy to find a leader who is fluent in both English and Malay, while also having a progressive mindset.

“Hence, we need dynamic leaders like Shahril,” he said, adding that Shahril was also the economic director in the Prime Minister’s Office.

Wee also stressed that such talents should be championed to make Malaysia a world-class country, as these individuals would one day lead the country.
