Floods in Batu Pahat receding

JOHOR BARU: While the flood situation is improving in Batu Pahat, a temporary flood relief centre (PPS) has opened up in Mersing.

According to the Johor disaster management committee, two out of five flood relief centres in Batu Pahat closed at 8pm Monday (Feb 6).

“At the same time, one centre has opened in Mersing to provide shelter for a family of seven from Kampung Jemari.

“Nine families with 29 evacuees are still putting up at the Kampung Seberang Batu Badak community hall in Segamat; while 130 evacuees from 34 families are seeking relief at SK Sri Sejati and Sri Medan community hall.

“This brings the total number of evacuees to 163 compared to the 420 evacuees recorded at 8am on Monday,” it read.

The statement added that most parts of Johor, except Pontian, is experiencing rain Monday night.

Ealier, the committee reminded the public to remain alert as the Malaysian Meteorology Department has forecasted continuous rain in Segamat, Kluang, Mersing and Kota Tinggi.
