Drunk driver leads police in chase against traffic flow

PETALING JAYA: An intoxicated motorist led police on a dangerous pursuit against the traffic flow along the Federal Highway here.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Fakhruddin Abdul Hamid said the incident occurred at around 5.50am on Monday (June 6).

“A police car was patrolling on the Federal Highway when it detected a car driving against traffic.

“Police personnel gave chase and ordered the driver to stop his vehicle but the motorist sped off toward the New Pantai Expressway exit,” he said in a statement.

He said police managed to stop the vehicle along Jalan Klang Lama.

“We arrested a 22-year-old man and brought him back to the Petaling Jaya police headquarters for further investigation.

“A breath test revealed that the suspect was under the influence of alcohol, above the permitted limit to drive,” he said, adding the case was investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act.
