Disabled teenager drowns in Gua Musang river

GUA MUSANG: A group of teenage boys were swimming in Sungai Kombat, Felda Perasu, when tragedy struck and one of them, a disabled, drowned.

OCPD Supt Sik Choon Foo said the victim, Muhammad Fakhrul Imam Zulkepli, 16, had gone to the site with his friends at about 4.30pm on Thursday.

“The incident happened when the victim and a friend, known only as Amir, were said to have been drawn deeper into the waters.

“Two other friends managed to pull Amir out, but their attempts to save the victim by using a stick were unsuccessful as it broke.

“The victim was swept away by the currents,” he said in a statement, adding that the victim’s body was later found floating on the river.

Supt Sik said the victim’s friends tried to save him by performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation but the attempts were unsuccessful.

He was rushed to a clinic but was certified dead by a medical assistant.

“The victim’s body was sent to Hospital Gua Musang, where a post-mortem found that he died due to drowning,” he said.

Supt Sik said investigations found no criminal elements and that the case has been classified as sudden death.
