Covid-19: Only 2% out of 3,140 new cases in categories three, four and five, says Health DG

KUALA LUMPUR: The number of new Covid-19 daily infections in the country was above 3,000 again when 3,140 new cases were recorded compared with 2,589 on Monday (Dec 20), says Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The Health director-general said of the 3,140 new cases recorded on Tuesday (Dec 21), only 64 cases or 2% were in categories three, four and five while the other 3,076 cases were in categories one and two.

Categories one and two refer to asymptomatic patients and those with mild symptoms; category three refers to patients with pneumonia, while patients in categories four and five require oxygen and ventilators respectively.

Dr Noor Hisham also said that 4,278 recovery cases were recorded, taking the total number of recoveries to 2,642,469, while 353 patients were being treated in the intensive care units (ICU) with 189 of them on ventilators.

He also announced that four new clusters were detected today with the total number of active clusters now at 247.

He added that the Rt (infectivity) value in the country yesterday was 0.91. – Bernama
