Cops deny accident victim was not allowed to lodge report

KUALA LUMPUR: The police have rubbished claims that an accident victim was not allowed to lodge a report at a police station.

Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Amihizam Abdul Shukor said they detected a tweet on Feb 15 from a man claiming that an accident had occurred near Bukit Damansara.

He said the tweet claimed that a victim had gone to the “Bukit Damansara police station” to lodge a report and was told to instead go to the Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI) or Brickfields police headquarters to lodge a report.

“Our checks revealed that the Bukit Damansara police station mentioned was a community police beat base which has been not been operational for over 12 years,” he said in a statement on Friday (Feb 17).

He said the beat base was closed in 2010 and was taken over by a security company the following year.

“The tweet is baseless and a police report has been lodged. We have opened investigations for misuse of networking facilities and defamation,” he said, urging the public to not easily believe information spread on social media from unverified sources.

Those with information on criminal activities should contact the Brickfields police hotline at 03-2297 9222, or the KL police hotline at 03-2115 9999.
