Congress on bronchology and interventional pulmonology to be held in Serdang Hospital from Aug 12-14

PETALING JAYA: After a two-year hiatus, the 7th Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) of the Malaysian Association for Bronchology & Interventional Pulmonology (MABIP) will be making a comeback.

MABIP chairman Dr Jamalul Azizi Abdul Rahaman said the two and a half day physical congress will be held in the auditorium, Serdang Hospital, from Aug 12-14.

“Although a virtual congress was held in 2020, it was not impactful.

“There was not much choice then as it was during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said.

Dr Jamalul Azizi said MABIP 2022 offers participants both didactic lectures and hands-on workshops from basic bronchoscopy to the most advanced interventional pulmonology procedures.

Also for the first time, 3D printed mannequins will be used during the hands-on sessions.

Event chairperson and MABIP assistant treasurer Dr Mona Zaria Nasaruddin said this year’s congress theme is “Rise of the Machines”.

The theme reflects the growing importance of robotic bronchoscopy and advancement of interventional pulmonology.

“We are fortunate to have distinguished speakers from all over the world taking part in MABIP 2022 to share their experiences and knowledge,” she said.

Besides Dr Jamalul Azizi who will give an overview on Rigid Bronchoscopy, others include Dr Muhammad Izanee Mohamed Mydin who will share his experience on Benign Airway Stenosis – Post Lung Transplant Airway Complications.

Previously, Malaysian-born Dr Muhammad Izanee was an ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) Fellow with the Toronto General Hospital, Canada, and is attached to the Freeman Hospital, Newcastle, as consultant cardiothoracic and transplant surgeon.

Other guest speakers are from India, Bangladesh, Canada, Hong Kong as well as specialists from several government hospitals such as Serdang, Sarawak, Melaka, Klang, Sungai Buloh and private medical centres.

The congress is endorsed by the World Association for Bronchology & Interventional Pulmonology.

MABIP was founded on Dec 31, 2013, dedicated mainly to bronchoscopy and interventional pulmonology, as well as other related areas of interest including interstitial lung disease, pulmonary physiology and lung transplantation.
