Baling flood: Two relief centres opened to house nine families

ALOR SETAR: Two temporary relief centres (PPS) have been opened following the flood in Baling district.

Baling district Civil Defence (APM) assistant officer Lt (rt) Mohd Dzulhaidy Khalil said the two PPS are at SK Tengku Habsah and Tun Abdul Razak hall.

“SK Tengku Habsah was opened at 8.30pm and currently accommodates five families while PPS at Tun Abdul Razak Hall was open at 9.30pm and currently houses four families,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (Aug 2).

Mohd Dzulhaidy said continuous rain for about an hour at 6pm on Tuesday has caused the water of Sungai Baling river to overflow into the housing areas along the riverbanks.

He said APM were alerted to the flood at about 7pm and a team of eight APM personnel members was dispatched to the flooded area.

He said the two PPS were opened after some of the victims’ houses were inundated with water.

He added that relocation exercises of the affected victim to PPS in the area are currently ongoing.
