Baby dies at childcare centre in Bangi

KAJANG: A three-month-old baby boy died after he was found unconscious at a childcare centre in Section 15, Bandar Baru Bangi on Friday (Jan 27).

Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Zaid Hassan said they received a call from a private hospital nurse at around 12.10pm about the incident.

“According to the nurse, she received the baby and emergency treatment had been given to the child, but there was no response prior to the victim being pronounced dead,” he said in a statement.

He said that initial investigations found that the baby was sent by his mother in a healthy condition to the centre at 7.15am.

“However, the baby was found unconscious by the babysitter at 10.30am. An examination of the baby’s body did not reveal any injuries.

“The baby’s body was sent to the Serdang Hospital for a post-mortem to identify the cause of death,” he said.

ACP Mohd Zaid said investigations revealed that the childcare centre had been operating since 2014 and had a valid licence from the Selangor Welfare Department.

“The case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Children’s Act 2001,” he said, urging anyone with information to contact Insp Noor Hairul Anuar Shuhaimi at 012-304 3034 to assist with the probe.
