KEPALA BATAS: Despite his hectic schedule, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim took the time to call on an old friend in Kampung Banggol, Pokok Sena here during his visit to Penang.
Anwar together with his wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail visited former Angkatan Belia Islam Malaysia (Abim) president Mohammed Yussof Abd Latiff, 84, and his wife Datin Safiah @ Che Piah Salleh, 79.
The Prime Minister arrived at Mohammed Yussof’s house at about 5.50pm Monday (Jan 23) and was there for half an hour chatting over durian porridge with glutinous rice and traditional Malay delicacies.
Mohammed Yussof, who suffered a stroke 30 years ago, said he was thrilled and grateful to have the Prime Minister as his guest today.
“Datuk Seri Anwar and I have been friends since our Abim days, at that time, I was the Penang YDP and he was the national president.
“We have known each other for over 50 years. Whenever he is back here (Penang), he will come over to my house,” he told reporters when met after Anwar’s visit.
Mohammed Yussof, who was Sungai Dua assemblyman for one term from 1990 to 1995, said he got into politics at that time following Anwar’s encouragement and support.
“I pray that the Prime Minister will continue to serve us. Insya-Allah,” said the grandfather of 11.
Mohammed Yussof, who suffers paralysis on the right side, said that during their conversation, Anwar advised him to be patient with his health condition. – Bernama
