Earlier last week, it was discovered by AnandTech that the Taiwanese semiconductor company, MediaTek, had been less than forthcoming with the benchmarks scores on UL’s tests. Having reviewed the data, UL informed us that it has decided to take off of smartphones running on MediaTek chipsets from its benchmarks list.
In total, UL has delisted a total of 50 smartphone models with MediaTek chipsets. All found to be producing benchmark scores that were significantly higher than what they were realistically capable of achieving. Bear in mind, devices that are delisted will appear unranked on UL’s benchmark lists and will not display PCMark for Android scores.
Breaking down the delisting further, UL says that delisted MediaTek-powered devices include devices running the following chipsets:
- Helio G90
- Helio G70
- Helio P95
- Helio P90
- Helio P65
- Helio P60
- Helio P20
- Helio A22
The devices itself include the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro, Oppo Reno3 Pro, Vivo Y19 as well as the Sony Xperia XA1, which launched back in 2016.
It also didn’t help MediaTek’s case when – after being approached by AnandTech regarding the discrepancies – it stood its ground with a boilerplate response. Stating that it followed accepted industry standards and that the scores of all its processor were accurate. Except, of course, it didn’t and they weren’t.
