Sony Officially Unveils DualSense Controller For The PS5

Here it is, everyone. Meet the DualSense, the official PlayStation 5 (PS5) controller in its full glory. And yes, Sony decided to not call it the DualShock 5 and that’s okay.

At a glimpse, the new controller’s silhouette does bear some resemblance to its predecessor, but with a more sleek and modern design overall. Colour-wise, Sony went with a two-toned design this time around, rather than the traditional single base colour.

The DualSense sports white as its primary colour, and black as its secondary – reminiscent of an orca or a panda, amusingly. Like its predecessors, hopefully we’ll get to see more colour options or themes after the PS5 is officially launched.

The controller features a familiar layout for its buttons and thumbsticks, specifically the DualShock 4’s. The few noticeable changes found on the DualSense include the blue light bars on the sides of the center touchpad, and an embossed PlayStation logo button underneath the built-in speaker. Oh, and the “Share” button is rebranded as “Create” now.

Besides its design, Sony reveals that the device will include a variety of new features and upgrades as well. Among these include new haptic feedback technology, adaptive trigger buttons for tactile sensation, and a rechargeable battery with USB-C support. The controller also features a built-in microphone, which enables players to easily chat with friends without the need of a headset.

Unfortunately, Sony did not discuss further regarding specific details such as its battery life, gyro controls, or unique features (if any). Without a doubt, we’ll certainly find out more about the DualSense once the PlayStation 5 is fully unveiled in the near future.
