Samsung Reportedly Planning To Release A US$1099 Galaxy Fold Lite

Word has it that we may be seeing a cheaper variant of the Samsung Galaxy Fold later this year, according to several sources. The people also shared that the refurbished edition of the foldable phone would sport older hardware and may adopt the “Lite” moniker.

A report by SamMobile stated that Display Supply Chain Consultants CEO Ross Young provided some information regarding the Galaxy Fold Lite. He said that Samsung is going to launch a special edition of the foldable phone in July and would be priced around US$1,099 (~RM4,750). Being a special edition, it would only be produced in limited quantities with around 55,000 units to be shipped, he added.

Meanwhile, known leaker and journalist Max Weinbach also claimed that Samsung is planning to release the Galaxy Fold Lite. He added that the device will only be released with 4G capabilities, equipped with a mix of hardware from 2018 to 2020, and may not feature the brand’s Ultra Thin Glass for its display.

One reported detail regarding the device that is inconsistent is its size. Both sources mentioned that the new edition of the Fold will sport the same form factor as the original. However, Young said that the foldable phone will retain the same size, whereas Weinback mentioned that it will likely feature a smaller display.

Whether Samsung is indeed planning to release a supposedly affordable variant of the Galaxy Fold is uncertain at this time. At least until they’re ready to let the cat out of the bag, if there ever is one.

On another note; if the Samsung Galaxy Fold’s form factor is not up your alley, perhaps you may want to consider their second foldable phone – the Galaxy Z Flip – which is already available in Malaysia.
