Ministry of Health Preps Up COVID-19 Quarantine and Treatment Centre In MAEPS Serdang

The Ministry of Health has revealed that it is converting the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS) into a quarantine centre for up to 600 COVID-19 patients. The move was done to prepare the country for the third wave of the outbreak.

Last week, the Director-General of Health Malaysia, Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah has pointed out that the third wave is likely to happen in Malaysia if certain members of the public continue to defy the restrictions of movement that were implemented under the Movement Control Order.

According to the tweet by MoH, the makeshift quarantine centre at MAEPS Serdang will also serve as treatment centre for low-risk COVID-19 patients. As for high-risk patients with history of chronic medial conditions, they will be placed at hospitals instead.

While MoH didn’t explain why it chose MAEPS Serdang, its massive hall and proximity to Hospital Serdang could be the reason. At the same time, the ministry also didn’t reveal if it is setting up similar makeshift quarantine and treatment centre in other parts of Malaysia.

As always, we are urging you to continue practicing good hygiene and please stay home as much as possible throughout the MCO period. Together, we doing our part in combating the spread of COVID-19.
