Microsoft Surface Duo Specs Allegedly Leaked; May Feature A Single 11MP Camera

The unveiling of the Microsoft Surface Duo last year was a pleasant surprise. In short, it’s basically a smaller Surface Neo, complete with dual-screens but running on Android rather than Windows. According to tech website Windows Central, we may have more insight on its specifications thanks to a very recent leak.

Although Microsoft has been tight lipped regarding the Duo’s specifications, they did confirm that it will sport a Snapdragon 855 SoC. Not a bad chipset whatsoever, as seen on various flagship devices from the last generation.

However, that fact alone might be a turn off for many, especially now that we have the newer and more powerful Snapdragon 865 chipset, which has proven its dominance in the Android smartphone market. This also means that the Duo will not support 5G connectivity as it is relying on the older SoC.

Based on Windows Central’s report, the leak suggests that the Surface Duo will feature the Snapdragon 855 chipset paired up with 6GB of RAM, and a storage capacity of either 64GB or 256GB. The device sports two 5.6-inch displays connected via a 360-degree hinge, which would unfold into an 8.3-inch screen. The displays also come with support for the Surface Pen accessory, and powering the device itself is a 3,460mAh battery with USB-C fast charging capability.

Other than that, the leak revealed that the Surface Duo will apparently feature only one 11MP camera sensor above its right screen, and is said to function as both its selfie and rear shooter. A previous leak revealed that a front-facing LED flash is placed alongside the aforementioned camera, which now makes sense if it was to be used for both front and back photography.

The report claims that the Microsoft Surface Duo is still on track for a 2020 launch, with an expected arrival sometime in summer. Its price point is still unknown for now – but seeing how the device is equipped with last gen hardware, most are hoping that it would cost far less than current flagship handsets or foldable phones.
