MediaTek Dimensity 820 Goes Official; The Chosen Chip For Xiaomi Redmi 10X

First announced in November 2019, MediaTek has slowly begun to expand its Dimensity 5G family of processors. Earlier today, the company has added another new model into the family by unveiling the Dimensity 820.

In terms of specifications, the new Dimensity 820 seems to be slightly more powerful than the Dimensity 800 that was introduced back in January. For its CPU, the new model still carries four Arm Cortex-A76 and four Arm Cortex-A55 cores although the speed for the Cortex-A76 cores on Dimensity 820 can go up to 2.6GHz as opposed to Dimensity 800 that maxed out at 2.0GHz.

However, the Cortex-A55 cores on Dimensity 820 still have a maximum speed of 2.0GHz as per Dimensity 800 though. MediaTek has also included a slightly beefier version of Arm Mali-G57 GPU in Dimensity 820 which has five shader cores as compared to the configuration on Dimensity 800 that has four shader cores. The ISP on the new chip is also able to support up to 80MP cameras while the older chip maxed out at 64MP.

However, the company is still using its HyperEngine 2.0 and APU 3.0 on Dimensity 820. The chip also continues to support a maximum resolution of 2520 x 1080 and 120Hz display refresh rate as well as up to 16GB LPDDR4x memory.

Among the first phone that will be equipped with the new chip is the upcoming Redmi 10X from Xiaomi that will be launched later this month. Xiaomi is certainly not shy in sharing the capability of the new Dimensity 820 since the company has revealed the AnTuTu benchmark score from the upcoming phone:

Early information suggests that the Redmi 10X will be made available in 4G and 5G variants. This means the later variant will be powered by Dimensity 820 since this chip comes with an integrated 5G modem that supports both Standalone (SA) and Non-Standalone (NSA) 5G networks as well as 5G carrier aggregation.

It is not yet known whether Redmi 10X will be making its way to our market or otherwise although we do know that the phone will be officially launched in China on 26 May. So, we have to wait until then to learn more about the new Dimensity 820-based phone.
