Hardware Store, Electronic Shops, and Barbers Will Soon Be Allowed To Operate During MCO

In his special address earlier today, PM Muhyiddin Yassin has revealed that the government will be allowing additional economic sectors to operate during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period which has now been extended to 28 April 2020.

These new sectors were approved by the Cabinet from a list that was compiled by a special committee which was based on recommendations made by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI), Ministry of Finance (MoF), Khazanah Nasional, and Bank Negara:

As you can see above, among those that have made it into the list are hardware shops as well as electronic and electrical stores. Other than that, selected sections of the automotive industry such as automotive parts and components, CBU exports, and after-sales services will soon be allowed to operate during MCO.

Alongside full-service launderettes, barbers are also allowed to provide haircuts during MCO. However, all these sectors must follow the strict health and safety guidelines from the Ministry of Health while their operational times are determined by the respective local governments.

Not only that, they need to obtain permission from the government first before they can operate their businesses once again. This can be done through MITI’s official website starting from 13 April onwards.
