vivo X90 Series’ Malaysian Launch Imminent; Listings Spotted In SIRIM Database

vivo is still being silent about the potential global release of its X90 series which debuted for the Chinese market in late 2022. However, thanks to a tip by resident database observer Kevin Ng TK, it has been discovered that smartphone models under the brand’s latest flagship line-up have already received approval from SIRIM back in December. In other words, a local rollout for the devices could potentially happen sooner or later.

According to the listings that we’ve dug up through MCMC’s Check Your Label app, the standard vivo X90 (V2218) and the X90 Pro (V2219) received their approvals on 7 and 27 December 2022 respectively. Strangely enough, the series’ top-of-the-line model, the vivo X90 Pro+, is nowhere to be found. That being said, it is possible that this particular variant has yet to be evaluated by SIRIM, considering the fact that the Pro model received its approval 20 days after the standard X90.

To refresh you on the two variants’ specifications, let’s recap our previous coverage. For starters, both the X90 and the X90 Pro feature the same 6.78-inch curved display with a top-centred camera cutout, 1260 x 2800 pixel resolution, 120 Hz refresh rate, 10-but colour output, and 1,300 nits peak brightness. While the two variants come with similar looking rear panel designs, the circular camera island on the former is actually slightly smaller than its sibling. Additionally, the vanilla variant is offered in three colour options (red, blue and black) while the latter is only offered in two (red and black).

Internally, the duo are equipped with MediaTek’s latest flagship chipset, the Dimensity 9200, which is paired together with up to 12 GB of RAM and up to 512 GB of internal storage. Unfortunately, only the vivo X90 Pro+ model packs the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, which will most likely disappoint fans if it does end up not coming to Malaysia. However, brands are known to sometimes release their smartphones in an entirely different configuration for other markets, so there is a chance that Qualcomm’s high-end chip might be featured in one of the models after all.

Battery-wise, the standard X90 comes with a capacity of 4,810 mAh, whereas the X90 Pro has a slightly larger 4,870 mAh capacity. Both devices come with the same 120 W fast charging support via USB-C, though only the latter variant features 50 W fast wireless charging support.

As for imaging, housed within the standard model’s circular island on its rear panel is a triple camera setup consisting of a 50 MP primary shooter with OIS, a 12 MP telephoto with 2x optical zoom, and a 12 MP ultra-wide sensor. The vivo X90 Pro, on the other hand, has the large 1-inch 50.3 MP Sony IMX 989 sensor for its primary, a regular 50 MP telephoto with OIS and 2x optical zoom, and a 12 MP ultra-wide. In front, both smartphones come with a 32 MP front-facing camera that is housed within the punch-hole cutout on their displays.

It’s still unclear when vivo is planning to launch the two vivo X90 devices in Malaysia for now. For your reference, the standard and Pro models are currently selling in China at a starting price of CNY 3,699 (~RM 2,366) and CNY 4,999 (~RM 3,198) respectively.

(Thanks for the tip, Kevin Ng TK!)
