Reliable leakster Steve Hemmerstoffer (also known as OnLeaks) has recently provided several renders of this year’s allegedly upcoming Sony flagship, revealing its design. The new leak was shared through a collaboration with tech site GreenSmartphones, which also listed some of the device’s key specifications.

If the leak is to be believed, the Sony Xperia 1 V may sport a design that’s almost no different than its predecessor. Its front is shown to feature the same layout as before, implying Sony’s insistence on maintaining a tall aspect ratio for the phone’s flat 6.5-inch display, as well as zero-tolerance to notches and punch-hole cutouts for the supposedly onboard 12 MP selfie camera. This would be unsurprising for fans of the series, as the Japanese company has been very consistent in terms of design language for its flagship smartphone model throughout multiple iterations.

The same can be said for the phone’s rear panel as well, which is shown to resemble last year’s model – save for some minor differences in placements for its camera array and the multiple lenses housed within it. On that note, it is suggested that Xperia 1 V may yet again feature a triple shooter setup, for better or worse. According to OnLeaks and GreenSmartphones, it is believed that the arrangement will consist of a 12 MP main, and a 12 MP telephoto with optical zooming capabilities through a periscope lens. Meanwhile, its onboard ultra-wide camera is listed to feature a 48 MP sensor, which looks to be a significant upgrade over its predecessor’s 12 MP.

The renders also depict that placements for the phone’s volume rocker, lock button and fingerprint sensor combo, and dedicated shutter button remain unchanged. Besides that, visible on top is a 3.5 mm headphone jack, while on the bottom is a USB-C port.

Specs-wise, both sources claim that the allegedly upcoming Sony Xperia 1 V will come equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset and 16 GB of RAM, while its battery retains its predecessor’s 5,000 mAh capacity. Some may say that these details are predictable, especially given that almost every other competing flagship device has pretty much been relying on Qualcomm’s latest high-end chipset (for the first half of the year, at least).

So, will the Xperia 1 V be yet another “if it isn’t broken, just upgrade it slightly” flagship smartphone from Sony? We’ll only find out for sure when the company is ready to unveil it. As to when that may be, both OnLeaks and GreenSmartphones expect the Japanese tech giant to announce the product later this month, while its release is believed to take place in summer of this year.
