Sony Has New In-Car Media Receivers Starting From RM2499

Sony XAV-AX6000

Sony has a couple of in-car audiovisual receivers coming into the market in a couple of months. They are the XAV-AX6000 and the XAV-AX4000. Both of them are actually pretty similar, but the latter naturally has a couple of tricks up its sleeve to set itself apart.

Before that, let’s start with the similarities. Both the Sony XAV-AX6000 and XAV-AX4000 come with a 6.95-inch touchscreen, and come with support for both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. So that’s the basics already covered for most in-car receiver needs. But for the audio enthusiasts, both receivers take things a step further.

One example of that is both receivers have support for LDAC. This is a proprietary audio coding tech by Sony, which allows for high bitrate sampling via Bluetooth. Which is what you need to get HiRes Audio over the wireless tech. Going with this is compatibility with FLAC files. This is probably the most common form of lossless audio format.

With these two, you can be sure that you’re listening to tracks at the highest quality that wireless tech can provide. But if you still prefer wired connectivity, or if your phone just needs a quick charge while you drive, there’s a USB-C port just for that.

Now that we’ve gone through the features that the two share in common, what is it with the Sony XAV-AX6000 that sets it apart from the XAV-AX4000? To start, it supports HDMI connectivity, for when you need to connect another audio visual source device. In addition to that, it also has a 5V pre-out, if you have an external amplifier you want to use.

The Sony XAV-AX6000 in-car receiver is priced at RM2899 and will be available in September. As for the XAV-AX4000, it has a slightly lower price of RM2499, and will also be available a month earlier, in August.
