realme launched its latest midranger, the GT Neo5, in China today with a unique design of a glowing rectangle on the back. The phone also comes in two variants that differ in charging speed, with one supporting 150W wired charging and another that supports a ridiculously fast 240W speed, making it the fastest charging rate for a smartphone currently on the market.

The realme GT Neo5 sports a 2772×1240 6.74-inch AMOLED display with a high refresh rate of 144Hz and a peak brightness of 1,400 nits. The back of the phone is quite interesting as next to the camera module, there is a transparent window where you get to peek inside the phone as well as an RGB LED rectangle that also acts as a notification light.

Under the hood, the device runs on last year’s flagship chipset from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1. The 240W version has 16GB of RAM and can be configured with either 256GB or 1TB of storage while the “slower” 150W variant only has 256GB of storage with configurations between 8GB to 16GB of RAM.

The GT Neo5 features a three-camera rear setup with a 50MP primary sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide, and a 2MP macro lens while the front houses a 16MP selfie shooter. For connectivity, the smartphone is equipped with Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, 5G, and an infrared blaster.

Obviously, the highlight of this phone is its jaw-dropping charging 240W charging speed, which realme claims can charge the phone from empty to 100% in under 10 minutes — it says that 30 seconds of charging can juice up the phone enough to have a two-hour call. The 240W model uses a 4,600mAh battery while the 150W version packs a bigger 5,000mAh capacity.

The realme GT Neo5 starts from CNY2,499 (~RM1,590) for the 150W variant and CNY3,199 (~RM2,035) for the faster 240W model. There’s no specific global release date yet but the global realme Twitter account has teased that a phone called the realme GT3 is coming soon, with a company rep confirming to Amanz that the GT Neo5 will be marketed in Malaysia as the GT3.
