Razer Boss: Parts Shortage Will Raise New Laptop Prices

Razer Blade 14 Ryzen

The ongoing pandemic has been hard on the supply of electronics, but this has primarily been affecting consoles and graphics cards. But perhaps it should be of no surprise that it’s affecting laptops as well. Or more specifically, the Razer Blade laptops.

Company CEO Min-Liang Tan tweeted that “we’ll be seeing price increases for next gen gaming laptops across the board next year”. Naturally, he highlights his own brand’s Razer Blade laptops, meaning that the pricey laptops will be come even more so.

Of course, it’s not like this is a problem that exclusively affects Razer. It’s likely that all laptop maker brands will be affected by this, especially if it runs the top end discrete GPUs, and even more so if they are of the Nvidia variety.

That’s not to say that laptop prices haven’t already been steadily increasing, even before the pandemic. But somewhat ironically, if you’re already willing to shell out the kind of premium that the Razer Blade commands in the first place, you’re probably the one who is least likely to notice the difference.

At any rate, the Razer CEO has basically given everyone looking to buy a laptop a heads up. You may have to weigh the pros and cons of getting a gaming laptop now, or pay a higher than usual premium for brand new hardware.
