Proton X90 Mild Hybrid SUV To Launch On 7 May

Proton X90 - March 2023

After several closed-door preview sessions, Proton’s latest pride and joy will finally make its official consumer debut later this week. According to the new post on its Instagram and Facebook, the new Proton X90 will be launched to the public on 7 May.

As noted in our previous reports, the X90 marked the national automaker’s first foray into the New Energy Vehicle (NEV) segment. This is due to the fact that it will become the first Proton model to be released with a hybrid power unit.

Specifically, the X90 will be featuring a 48V Electric Motor Synergy (EMS) System alongside its 1.5L TGDi three-cylinder turbo engine. Also equipped with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, the hybrid power unit is able to deliver a maximum power output of 190PS alongside 300Nm of torque.

While it might be based on Geely Okavangi (also known as Haoyue in China), the X90 has been given a newly-designed front grille which was apparently inspired by songket. Available with either a 6 or 7-seater configuration, the new SUV has also been installed with a 10-inch LCD digital instrument cluster while there is also another 12.3-inch display for its infotainment system.

In addition to that, the X90 will also carry several safety features that have never been featured on previous Proton models. Among them includes Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Rear Collision Warning, and Traffic Sign Information.

At the moment, Proton is still keeping the price tag of the X90 as a secret and it goes without saying that we expect this particular information to be made public on 7 May. In case you need a comparison though, the X50 currently has a starting price of RM86,300 while the X70 starts at RM98,800.
