Police Nabs Doctor For Selling Vaccine Certificates At RM600 A Pop

A 51-year-old doctor in Terengganu has been arrested for selling vaccine certificates to anti-vaxxers following information from members of the public. Each customer forked out around RM400 to RM600 to obtain the certificate, according to the Chief Police of Terengganu, DCP Rohaimi Md Isa.

Rohaimi noted that most of the transactions happened online and the doctor has also engaged with agents who received RM50 to promote the fake certificate service. The doctor operates a private clinic in Marang which has received the approval to administer the COVID-19 vaccine as a paid program since last September.

To date, 1,900 vaccine certificates have been issued by the clinic. The police together with the Ministry of Health are now investigating whether the names attached to these certificates have really been vaccinated or otherwise.

Rohaimi further said that the doctor has identified himself as an anti-vaxxer even though he has already been vaccinated. The case in Terengganu came just days after Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin revealed that 17 out of 122 individuals that were infected by the Omicron variant were not vaccinated even though they somehow managed to travel overseas.
