Last month, the Redmi Note 12 Turbo became the first smartphone to run on the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 2 chipset. Now, Snapdragon India has confirmed that the chip will also be featured in the long-rumoured POCO F5 smartphone.
The phone’s SoC was first spotted on Geekbench with the model number 23049PCD8G, which apparently comes with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. This was then confirmed by Snapdragon on Twitter, claiming that the platform brings 50% higher overall performance, 13% improved power efficiency, and an improved AI performance by two-fold compared to the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1.

Not much else is known about the upcoming phone, but POCO has officially announced that the F5 series launch is imminent, although the brand has yet to give a specific date. Many speculate that the POCO F5 will just be a rebranded Redmi Note 12 Turbo for the global market, and with both phones now confirmed to be running the same chip, that rumour may actually be accurate.
For reference, the Note 12 Turbo sports a 6.67-inch 1080p OLED display with a Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 2 as its core with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of internal storage. It supports Wi-Fi 6E, 5G, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, and is even equipped with a 3.5mm audio jack and an infrared blaster.
On the camera side, it houses a triple-lens setup consisting of a 64MP main camera with OIS, an 8MP ultra-wide, and a 2MP macro sensor. The phone is powered by a 5,000mAh battery with support for 67W fast charging.
Another device reported to be in the F5 series is the POCO F5 Pro, which may be a rebadged Redmi K60. The Pro variant was spotted in the SIRIM database way back in February which most likely means that it will get a Malaysian launch. As for the vanilla POCO F5, it still hasn’t received local certification, so it’s uncertain if it will be making its way here at the same time as the Pro.
