POCO has launched a new entry-level device with the POCO C55, offering modest specs and obvious compromises for a smartphone with a very affordable price tag. The phone was made available in India with a faux leather back design that comes in three colour options, namely black, green, and blue.
The POCO C55 sports a 6.71-inch 720p display with a refresh rate of 60Hz, a touch sampling rate of 120Hz, and protection using Panda Glass. Despite being a low-end device, it surprisingly offers a fingerprint sensor on the back as well as an IP52 dust and water resistance rating.
For the internals, the budget smartphone runs on a MediaTek Helio G85 chipset and can be configured with up to 6GB of RAM and a maximum storage of 128GB, alongside a microSD card slot for storage expansion. It has a 3.5mm audio jack, a staple for entry-level smartphones, and supports 4G LTE, dual-band Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 5.0, but it lacks NFC functionality.
The company labels the C55’s camera setup as a “dual camera” but in reality, it only has a single 50MP primary lens with the other camera being a 2MP depth sensor. Up front, the display houses a 5MP selfie shooter housed in a teardrop notch.
The battery life seems impressive as the POCO C55 is powered by a large 5,000mAh battery, which the brand calls a “weekend battery”. Unfortunately, the phone is equipped with an outdated microUSB port which limits the charging speed to only 10W. As for the operating system, it ships with MIUI 13 based on Android 12.
The POCO C55 will be available in all three colours in India starting 28 February with a starting price of INR9,499 (~RM509) for the base 4GB+64GB model and INR10,999 (~RM590) for the 6GB+128GB variant. As of writing, the company has not announced pricing and availability in other markets yet.
