Logitech G and Tencent Games officially announced that they have entered into a partnership. The goal of this partnership is to see both companies launch what is believed to be a dedicated “cloud gaming handheld” later at the end of this year.
As per Logitech G’s press release, it intends to leverage its expertise in hardware and Tencent’s collective experience in software services. The handheld console will reportedly be able to run several different online game streaming services and to that end, the companies are already in talks with Microsoft and NVIDIA, in order to bring both the Xbox Cloud Gaming and GeForce NOW platforms to the console.
“As one of the leading global platforms for game development, publishing and operations, Tencent Games has been at the forefront of innovation and it’s why we partnered with them,” Ujesh Desai, general manager of Logitech G. “As someone that grew up playing video games, the idea of being able to stream and play AAA games almost anywhere is super exciting, and we can’t wait to show everyone what we’ve been working on.”
Sadly, beyond the official announcement, neither Logitech G nor Tencent Games are showing a glimpse of what their new handheld console looks like, nor are they providing any further information regarding pricing or a release date.
It shouldn’t come as a surprise that this isn’t the first partnership or collaboration Logitech G has done with a major brand. Back in 2020, the gaming peripherals and accessories brand teamed up with Herman Miller, the US-based furniture maker, in order to launch the Embody, a high-end and premium-grade gaming chair.
For another matter, Logitech G is far from the only gaming peripherals brand that is looking into expanding their handheld cloud gaming services. Recently, a company called Backbone announced the self-named Backbone One – PlayStation Edition, a mobile controller that supposedly draws inspiration from Sony’s DualSense controller for the PlayStation 5 (PS5). As you can imagine, the controller is being marketed as one of “the best” controllers to be paired with the iPhone and to be used with the PlayStation Remote Play app.
