Kia EV6

The 2022 electric vehicle line-up in Malaysia has just got bigger once again as the local distributor for Kia, Dinamikjaya Motors has officially launched the Kia EV6 in our market. The compact crossover SUV is built using the same Electric Global Modular Platform as per Hyundai Ioniq 5 that was launched in Malaysia earlier this year.

Fully imported from South Korea, only one variant of the EV6 is made available in Malaysia which is the GT-Line AWD.  Equipped with a 239kw dual-motor all-wheel drivetrain and 20-inch alloy wheels, the SUV has a combined output of 320hp (~324.4 PS) and maximum combined torque of 605Nm alongside a top speed of 185km/h.

The EV6 is powered by a 77.4kWh battery which allows it to travel up to 506km according to the WLTP standard. Equipped with a Type 2 port for AC charging alongside a CCS2 port for DC charging, it would take around 7 hours 20 minutes to go from 10% to 100% when using an 11kw AC charger

The charging duration can be significantly reduced to 73 minutes by using a 50kW DC charger. It can actually support DC chargers with a power rating as high as 350kW which could boost the charging speed from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes.

However, we are not aware of such chargers in Malaysia for the time being. While we are still on the topic, the EV6 also comes standard with a 3.6kWh Vehicle-2-Load adapter that allows users to power external devices using the car’s battery juice.

Meanwhile, the EV6 also has a panoramic curved display cluster which consisted of a 12.3-inch screen for its infotainment system and another 12.3-inch screen that is dedicated to the car’s instruments. Together with the support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the SUV has also been equipped with a 14-speaker sound system by Meridian, a 15W Qi wireless charger, four USB-C ports, and two 12V power sockets.

Kia has also provided a long list of advanced safety features to the EV6 including Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, Blind-Spot View Monitor, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist, Front Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Following Assist, Driver Attention Warning, and Smart Cruise Control. There are also features that are slightly oriented toward child passengers such as Rear Occupant Alert and Safe Exit Assist.

Not to forget, there is also the Surround View Monitor that provides a 360-degree view of the SUV which could be very helpful when driving or parking the EV6 in tight sports. The EV6 also comes with a 5-year manufacturer warranty and 7-year battery warranty although both warranty policies are still mileage-limited at 150,000km.
