Bajet 2023: My50 Monthly Unlimited Travel Pass To Continue

Bajet 2023 My50 Unlimited Monthly Travel Pass to continue

During the tabling of Budget 2023 (Bajet 2023) in parliament today, Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul has announced that the government will continue the My50 Unlimited Travel Pass to alleviate the burden of transportation costs by commuters in the Klang Valley. Its extension is expected to benefit 180,000 public transport users, allowing them to save RM 150 a month.

“On average, Klang Valley residents who utilise the rail and bus services spend RM200 per month,” the minister stated. “To reduce this cost, we will continue with the My50 monthly pass initiative.” Zafrul explained that extending the My50 Unlimited Travel Pass will subsidise a total of RM 150 a month, or RM 1,800 a year, for commuters in the Klang Valley.

For the uninitiated, the current iteration of My50 was introduced in January 2022 as a replacement to last year’s My30 pass. With it, Klang Valley commuters are provided monthly unlimited access to numerous public transport services including the Light Rail Transit (LRT), Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), KL Monorail, and Rapid KL buses.

In order to be eligible for the My50 Unlimited Travel Pass, public transport users must be a Malaysian citizen with a valid MyKad or MyTentera card. The cards themselves are necessary, as the pass utilises the built-in Touch ‘n Go function. Commuters who wish to purchase My50 may do so via the Rapid KL Customer Service Counters at all LRT, MRT, Monorail and BRT stations, as well as selected Rapid KL Bus Hubs in the Klang Valley.

It is also worth noting that your myKad or MyTentera card must have a minimum of RM 55 onboard in order to complete the transaction. Those with insufficient purse value are required to reload the cards accordingly via the Customer Service Counters directly or through other locations that provide Touch ‘n Go top-up services. The My50 pass will be in effect for 30 days from the date of activation.

Besides the Travel Pass, Tengku Zafrul added that a total of RM180 million will also be allocated to improve stage bus services, particularly in Melaka, Kota Kinabalu, and Kuching. Further, the government remains committed to continue improving transportation for those living in rural areas, as well as improving airport services in Sabah and Sarawak.
