Astro Fibre Now Has Its Own Dedicated App: Provides Access Control, Guest Wi-Fi Sharing

Astro Fibre App

Astro today officially revealed a new app for its broadband service, Astro Fibre. Currently available for Android and iOS devices, this stand-alone app is designed to work with the RG21 router that the company rolled out to Astro Fibre customers in October last year.

Even though it was announced to the public today, the app has already been made available to users much earlier as it was actually mentioned in the presentation slides for Astro’s Q3 FY23 financial report [pdf] last month. At a glance, the new Astro Fibre app generally seems to have the same nature as many routers or Wi-Fi mesh apps out there.

One of its main features is allowing users to set specific time schedules for devices connected to their Astro Fibre’s Wi-Fi network. For example, you can stop the data traffic from flowing to all of their connected devices at 8:00 PM daily by setting up the access rule inside the family member profile that you have created for them inside the app.

Aside from a fixed schedule, you can also pause the Wi-Fi access for specific family member profiles on-the-fly at any given time. In others words, think of parental control and you would get the idea.

Alternatively, users can also schedule the offline time to specific devices through the My Devices portion of the app’s My Network section. The same section also allows Astro Fibre app users to monitor the health of their network in terms of connection speed, connected devices, and more.

Another feature that the Astro Fibre app has is the ability to share Wi-Fi access with guests via a QR code. Once generated, users can choose to send over the Wi-Fi QR code to their guests via other means such as WhatsApp, Telegram, SMS, Twitter (not sure why you want to do that for your home Internet though), and many more.

At the moment, Astro Fibre home fibre service can be obtained with a speed of up to 800Mbps alongside a starting price of RM99 for the standalone 50Mbps plan. One can also choose to bundle the service with an Astro TV pack which offers savings of between RM19 to RM39 per month, depending on the preferred TV pack.
